LCSO: Man arrested, charged in town center shooting

By Staff | Dec 11, 2013

The man charged with recently shooting into a crowded Lee County restaurant has been located and arrested in North Carolina, officials reported last week.

Information gathered by the U.S. Marshal’s Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force led to the determination that Jose Martins, 33, of 717 Grant Blvd., Lehigh Acres, might be hiding out in a small town in western North Carolina.

With the assistance of Marshals in North Carolina, Martins was located at a hotel in Boone, N.C., where he was arrested Dec. 3 in the parking lot after walking out of his room.

Martins will be held in North Carolina pending extradition to Florida.

Martins faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and firing a deadly missile into an occupied building.

At 8:30 p.m. Nov. 27, Lee County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched in reference to shots fired in the Gulf Coast Town?Center at the House of Brewz, at 10045 Gulf Center Drive, E-110, Fort Myers.

Upon arrival, deputies were informed a man wearing a red hoodie and blue jeans stood outside the front of the business and shot approximately four to five rounds from a hand gun into the business while patrons were around. Deputies learned of Martins, an ex-employee, as a possible suspect.

There were no injuries to any member of the public.
