Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott reassures the residents of Lehigh Acres that the last two “drive-by shootings” shouldn’t cause the community to be overly alarmed.

“They are not random shootings, but selected shootings aimed usually at drug dealers and the like, people who may owe them money,” Scott said.

The latest drive-by shooting – something rare in Lehigh Acres – occurred last Thursday morning, May 15, just after 1:30 a.m. on Meadow Road between Sparta Avenue and Pom Pom Court.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, investigators said someone fired shots at a home, damaging the windshield of a car parked in the driveway. No one was hurt, and deputies do not have any suspects.

This other drive-by shooting occurred a week before, a Wednesday “drive-by” on May 7. Both of the shooting scenes were just off SR82.

Scott say they may be related and could be the same person.

“We’re doing a thorough investigation. We have the casings from the bullets,” Scott said. “There are video surveillance often that helps us, too.

“But these shootings were very targeted usually involving drug dealers. We would ask anyone who has information to contact the Sheriff’s Office or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-TIPS with any information.

“If someone saw the vehicles and can describe them or what they saw and heard – well that can all help in our investigation,” Scott said.

The sheriff said his biggest worry is that the drive-by shooters aim at the wrong house.

“People should be diligent, but overall, the community is not at danger,” he said.

“It’s a real concern to us and we are sure it is drug related,” he said.

No arrests had been made in either of the two drive-by shootings and nobody was injured.

“But I would remind residents in the area to try to remember anything they may have seen unusual in the neighborhoods and any other information. Just call us. It can help in our investigation,” Scott said.

And for others who may have definite knowledge about who is responsible, the sheriff noted that they should call CrimeStoppers and become eligible for a reward. Callers with tips can remain anonymous.
