Two from Lehigh killed in crash
Two Lehigh Acres women, believed to be mother and daughter, were killed in a 7:28 a.m. accident on Friday, June 20 on a curve on Buckingham Rd.
Pronounced dead at the scene were the driver of the 2003 Kia, Jacqueline Cherry, 37, and Mike’Kiria Lynnisha Rogers, 19, according to Cpl. George R. Kantor of the Florida Highway Patrol.
He said the accident occurred on Buckingham Rd., a little more than half a mile west of Neal Rd., just outside Lehigh.
Kantor said the car was eastbound on Buckingham Rd. in a curve and that a witness said the vehicle was being operated at a high rate of speed.
He said in his police report that the vehicle went onto the grass on the south shoulder and overturned. Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt, Kantor said. Both were ejected.
Troopers searched the area after seeing a child’s car seat but they did not find any evidence of a child on board, Kantor said. An investigation is underway, but no cause has been determined for the mishap.
A section of Buckingham Rd. northbound was closed due to the accident. Traffic was being re-routed along the southbound lanes.
