Identity sought for sneaky thief
Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s help identifying an black man who swiped a store’s cash drop while the clerk was momentarily distracted.
According to detectives, a clerk at the Handy Gas Station, at 3205 Lee Blvd., was preparing to make four money drops into the store’s safe about 1:30 p.m. April 2.
When the man asked for her assistance in picking out lottery tickets, she placed the bags filled with several hundred dollars under the counter until she completed the transaction.
During those brief moments, the man, described as in his 30s with a white tank top, can be seen grabbing the bags and stuffing them in his pockets before purchasing the lottery tickets and leaving.
