Taking the edge off the daily grind: New restaurant opens in Lehigh

By Staff | Jul 9, 2014

MEL TOADVINE One of the owners of The Daily Grind, a new eatery in Lehigh Acres, is Margaret Serna.

“We’ve been opened for only a few weeks and we think those who have stopped by to have lunch or some dessert like what we offer and we are inviting everyone in Lehigh to come by and have a great meal.

Margaret Serna and her partner Jason Peppers are owners of The Daily Grind, located at the Villages of Lehigh, just off Taylor Lane. Its actual address is 1251 Taylor Lane, and the eatery is next to the Victory Christian Center (you can’t miss it because the church’s name is in big letters on a big window.)

The owners live in Bonita Springs and saw Lehigh as an opportunity for a small intimate restaurant.

“We looked around and there were not very many smaller restaurants that offer the good food like we do for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We thought this would be a great place to open up,” said Serna.

Above the new restaurant is the Latin Bistro, a new Latin restaurant in Lehigh, so Serna says their eatery is easy to find.

MEL TOADVINE Xzavier Serna, 9, says he loves the cakes at The Daily Grind and is ready to dig into a slice here.

When you walk into the new restaurant, you notice first of all how clean and how nice everything looks.

There are tables to seat more than 30 people and the owners say diners can eat outside, too, but would probably prefer the inside during the hot summer.

“We are going to put more tables outside when it cools down. We think people will like that when the weather is not so hot,” Serna said.

The Daily Grind features great meals and specials each day and Serna’s father is one of the cooks.

“Our food is specially cooked as are our daily desserts and we feel the prices are good,” Serna said. “It’s because we all love to cook and prepare food to make people relax and enjoy themselves they work all day at the daily grind in their offices, etc., so we thought we would name our restaurant The Daily Grind so they could just relax, sit back, enjoy our food and the restaurant.

The Daily Grind is open Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Sundays from 7 a.m. to noon with breakfast – an all American fare, including eggs, omelets, pancakes, you name it, Serna said.

She is the baker of the beautiful cakes and pies in the show cases and you can buy them by the slice or by the whole cake or pie.

“And we have desserts with no sugar. One of the best ones is our New York styled cheese cake. It’s really nice, heavy and tasty, just the way you like, but with no sugar,” she laughed. She has the lighter cheese pies without sugar, too.

There are all types of cakes, many of them uniquely decorated on top with fruit and all kinds of pies, also uniquely decorated and many of them, too, are sugar-free.

“My partner and I have been pounding the streets of Lehigh, letting people all over town know we are here and we are close by for their lunch. We’re going to keep visiting the downtown office to drum up business,” she said.

“And we know people love chili, and guess what, we have chili every day here,” she said.

“And each day we have different sandwich combinations and specials, all posted when you come in the door,” she said.

“Tell them that everything here is handmade all the breads are cooked daily and we use the best roast beef, turkey and chickens for our meal offerings.

You don’t need reservations at The Daily Grind, but Serna did suggest that if you bring in a big party of a dozen or more people, you may want to call them at 239-369-5527. Call her, too, if you want her to make you a special kind of cake for a special occasion.

“Our burgers are the best. We even grind the fresh meat here, and we have some of the most delicious burgers with bacon, a new trend today, and many other treats for burger lovers.

“But we are not fast food. We are a nice sit-in restaurant where you can come and relax and enjoy your meal,” she said. “Soup, salad and a sandwich are often specials.

If you’re hungry, Serna promise you won’t leave with an empty stomach.

“Just give us a try and see. You’ll come back,” she said.
