Class of 2014 earns millions in scholarships

The School District of Lee County’s graduating class of 2014 earned millions of dollars in scholarships and will be attending colleges, universities and technical centers across the United States.

Early data show that the class of 2014 earned over $52 million in scholarships.

Along with scholarship dollars earned, members of the class reported their post high school plans. Of the students who provided information:

– Attend a Florida public community college: 730

– Attend an out-of-state community college: 36

– Attend a Florida public college/university: 1,873

– Attend a Florida private college/university: 269

– Attend an out-of-state college/university: 281

– Attend a Florida Technical/Trade/Other: 316

– Attend an out-of-state Technical/Trade/Other: 32

– Enter the Military: 289

– None of the above: 494

McDonald’s to host school supply drive

From Aug. 1-3, 50 McDonald’s restaurants across Southwest Florida will host a school supply drive where customers can drop off supplies in the restaurants.

In Lee County, all supplies will be donated to the Foundation for Lee County Public Schools.

McDonald’s local owner-operators say they are excited to have the opportunity to support local schools and students with this new activity.

Many local McDonald’s already support local education through hosting “McTeacher Night” fundraisers where a portion of sales goes back to local schools.
