East County Regional Library presents programs for September
The roster of activities at East County Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:
Adults
– Chess Anyone?
4 p.m. Sept. 22 and 29
Rise to the chess challenge and join the fun. Chess enthusiasts of all ages are welcome. Bring a chess set or use one of the library’s. Sponsored by the Friends of the East County Regional Library.
– English Caf
6 p.m. Sept. 22
Practice English with English Cafe, a free, conversation session for adult ESOL and ESL students. Each 90-minute session provides adult learners an opportunity to practice speaking English with native speakers. Participants may start at any time. Advanced registration is not necessary.
– Knitting Nook
5 p.m. Sept. 24
A fun, casual group of knitters and crocheters getting together to share project and technique ideas. Please note that this group is not facilitated by a professional knitting instructor, but is intended for group members to learn from each other. Some materials will be provided for newcomers, or bring a project. Sponsored by the Friends of the East County Regional Library.
– Paper Beading Necklaces
5:30 p.m. Sept. 17
Turn simple strips of paper into colorful beads. This craft has been popular since Victorian times to create jewelry, curtains and more. Participants will make animal print paper bead necklaces to take home. All supplies included. Class size is limited to 10. Sponsored by the Friends of the East County Regional Library. Registration is required.

Calling all chess enthusiasts. The Friends of the East County Regional Library are sponsoring a chess tournament for players of all ages. Various age groups will be represented and trophies will be awarded at the end of the tournament. Sign up online, by telephone, or at any Lee County Library System location. Registration is required.

– Family Storytime
6:30 p.m. Sept. 23
This program is for the whole family and lasts about 30 minutes.
– Toddler Storytime
10 a.m. Sept. 17 and 24
10 a.m. Sept. 18 and 25
Children 2 years old and their caregivers participate in song, fingerplays and short stories. The success of this age group depends on adult participation and encouragement. Toddler storytime lasts approximately 30 minutes.
– Celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month
2 p.m. Sept. 20
Participate in a performance of The Frog Prince, Continued and find out why the Frog Princess thinks it’s important for everyone to have a library card. Make a frog craft to take home.
Children
– Preschool Storytime
10:30 a.m. Sept. 17 and 24
10:30 a.m. Sept. 18 and 25
Preschoolers (ages 3 to 5) attend this storytime independently while parents or caregivers wait nearby in the library building. This storytime includes activities that require more participation and a longer attention span. Each preschool storytime lasts about 30 minutes. Registration is required.
– Kids Read Down Fines
4:30-5:30 p.m. Sept. 24
3-4 p.m. Sept. 27
Children and teens can earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes of reading, during the allotted time. A total of $8 per day may be earned. For ages 18 and younger. Coupons may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only. Bring your library card with you. Your library card or library card number is required in order to access your account.
– Wii & Board Games

Drop-in for some friendly competition. The library has a variety of Wii and board games for kids to play.

All teens at invited to visit the East County Regional Library to play Nintendo Wii and a variety of board games at this relaxed and fun for all program. Registration is not required but the program is limited to 25 participants.
