The roster of activities at East County Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following are free to the public:
Adults
– Film Viewing & Discussion: ‘Bully’
1 p.m. Oct. 4
The East County Regional Library will be hosting a screening of “Bully,” Lee Hirsch’s documentary film on peer-to-peer bullying in schools across America. A discussion led by the National Alliance on Mental Illness Lee County will follow. Rated PG-13 for intense thematic material, disturbing content and some strong language.
– Book Discussion: ‘Boys in the Boat’ by Daniel James Brown
3:30 p.m. Oct. 6
Join the group in the library meeting room for a discussion of the monthly book selection, “Boys in the Boat.” The true story of nine working class boys from the University of Washington who traveled to Berlin in 1936 for Hitler’s Olympics. The crew team shocked the world by unexpectedly defeating elite teams in their quest for gold.

Chess enthusiasts of all ages are welcome. Bring a chess set or use one of the library’s.
– Poetry Club

Join local poetry writers and enthusiasts as they meet every month to write, share and discuss this literary art form. Meetings may vary to include workshops, speakers and readings. Registration is requested.
– Knitting Nook
5 p.m. Oct. 8 and 22
A fun, casual group of knitters and crocheters getting together to share project and technique ideas. This group is not facilitated by a professional knitting instructor, but is intended for group members to learn from each other. Some materials will be provided for newcomers, or bring a project.
– Building Block Cards
10 a.m. Oct. 11
Make this card’s message POP on dimensional blocks. Stamping, die cuts and shapes will be done. Class difficulty: medium/hard. Class limited to 15; registration required.
– English Cafe
6 p.m. Oct. 13, 20 and 27
Practice English with English Cafe, a free, conversation session for adult ESOL and ESL students. Each 90-minute session provides adult learners an opportunity to practice speaking English with native speakers. Participants may start at any time.
– Mixed Media Travel Journals
5:30 p.m. Oct. 15
Create a fun, festive travel journal. Use paper cutouts, stamps, special effects paint and other craft supplies to create a personalized notebook to house traveling memories. Class limited to 10; registration required.

– Baby-Parent Rhyme Time
10:30 a.m. Oct. 4

Be prepared to tickle, jump and fly with your baby. These rhymes and songs are for infants, up to 24 months, accompanied by an adult. This 20-minute program is filled with songs designed to introduce rhyming and movement to infants.

– Help Stop Bullying.
2 p.m. Oct. 1
Deputy C. Tyus, of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, will present tips for bullying prevention and cybersafety. Education and strategies will be age appropriate for teens and tweens. Learn the risks and speak up.

Join a group of teens to discuss Teen Ink’s “Bulling Under Attack,” a collection of true stories written by teen victims, bullies and bystanders. Registration is required.

All teens at invited to play Nintendo Wii and a variety of board games at this relaxed and fun for all program. Program is limited to 25 participants.

3-4 p.m. Oct. 25
Children and teens can earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes of reading, during the allotted time. A total of $8 per day may be earned. For ages 18 and younger. Coupons may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only. Bring your library card; your library card or library card number is required to access your account.
