Haunted walk: LCEC, Rotary Club to team up for some scary fun
Fred Elliott
Get ready on the last two weekends of October for some Halloween fun and that means ghosts, goblins and ghouls, all ready to give you a scare for the fun of it.
The Lee County Electric Cooperative will present the Rotary Club of Lehigh Acres’ first Scream on the Green Haunted Walk.
The scary events will be at Copperhead Golf Course which Rotarian spokeswoman Carla Ulakovic says will be a hauntingly good time as guests meander through the haunted course.
The Scream on the Green will be open from 710 p.m. on Oct. 23, 24, 25 and 30 as well as on Halloween Night, Oct. 31. The event is open to all ages. Admission to the Scream on the Green event is $3 per entry. Guests can save $1 per entry by bringing a canned food item that will be donated to Lehigh Community Services, Ulakovic said.
“I think Lehigh Acres is hungry for an event like this. We are so excited about our inaugural Scream on the Green, said Rotary Chairman Fred Elliott.
“Our club will have about 20 volunteers over the five-night event. In addition we have recruited the help of several high school students to participate as zombies, ghosts and ghouls. We plan to make this an annual event.
“The Rotary Club of Lehigh Acres uses projects like the Scream on the Green event to raise money for giving back to the community. The things we support both financially and with volunteer labor include Kids Night Baseball – we purchase the entire stadium for a Fort Myers Miracle game and give away all the tickets.
“We have a scholarship program for high school seniors. We prepare and serve Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at the Catholic church. Last year between the two dinners we served over 1,000 meals – for free. We also support several local youth programs in and out of the schools. Our club has also supported Lehigh Community Services,” Elliott said.
The Rotary Club has also teamed up with the Kiwanis Club of Lehigh Acres to host Trunk or Treat a free trick or treating event for youth.
It will take place Oct. 31 from 7-10 p.m. at Copperhead Golf Course
“This Scream on the Green promises to be one of the scariest Halloween events in Southwest Florida and was made possible due to the generosity of our sponsors like the Lee County Electric Cooperative, The News-Press Media Group, Coldwell Banker Preferred Properties, as well as The Rotary Club of Lehigh Acres and its volunteers.
Copperhead Golf Club is located off Homestead Road at the end of Beth Stacey Boulevard at 20910 Copperhead Drive, Lehigh Acres. Parking is free.
