At 12:15 p.m. Oct. 10, the Fort Myers Police Department responded to a traffic accident at SR 82 and Forum Boulevard. It involved a motorcycle and pickup truck.

The motorcyclist, Victor King, of Lehigh Acres, was rushed to Lee Memorial Hospital. He later died from his injuries.

The traffic crash investigation revealed the following that the driver of the truck, Oheli Velazquez Soto, of Lehigh Acres, was headed eastbound on SR 82. Once past Forum, Soto realized an approximately five-foot piece of wood she was transporting had fallen off the truck.

Soto stopped in the left travel lane of SR 82 and exited the vehicle to retrieve the piece of wood. A few seconds later, King collided with the rear of the parked pickup truck.

Soto was found at fault for the accident and cited for improper stopping and unsecured load. Speed, alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the accident.
