LCSO honors students at monthly awards ceremony

Humanitarian concern, honesty, integrity, positive decision making and heroism were noted Oct. 16 at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office’s “Do The Right Thing” ceremony. The following area students were honored:

– Victor Black, of Lehigh Acres, fifth-grader at River Hall Elementary School

– Zechariah Braham, of Fort Myers, fifth-grader at River Hall Elementary School

Teacher Becky Silcox wrote, “As Zechariah and Victor were getting ready to leave the cafeteria, a kindergarten student tripped and fell. This happened while the student was carrying her lunch tray full of food. Zechariah and Victor saw what had happened and immediately offered to clean up the mess and help the little girl up. They asked the child if she was okay. Zechariah and Victor were very helpful and compassionate.”

– Allison Mc Clary, of Lehigh Acres, third-grader at River Hall Elementary School

– Ana Mejia, of Fort Myers, fifth-grades at River Hall Elementary School

Principal Dr. Scott Le Master wrote, “Allison and Ana both observed a situation in which a student was being extremely unkind and unsafe to another and could have possibly hurt the other student. Both students were extremely helpful and forthright in working with administration in determining what actually happened. Both girls showed an extreme amount of courage with the situation and showed real trust in both their assistant Principal and Principal as talking to adults is sometimes not an easy thing to do especially about something like this. The courage the girls showed is to be commended. Because of the two girls and their assistance, this situation was dealt with and steps were taken so this could not happen again. Dr. LeMaster, Mrs. Lombard the school’s counselor and the girl’s classroom teachers all agree that Allison and Ana are wonderful young ladies and feel they should be nominated for being courageous, kind and doing the right thing.”

– Tyler Mudge, of Lehigh Acres, first-grader at Bayshore Elementary School

Teacher Danielle Moraine wrote, “Tyler wanted to help others. He decided on a cause and began collecting a ton of pop tops from soda cans. He did this to help of our teachers raise money for Breast Cancer Research and Awareness.”

– Tanajaha Edison, of Lehigh Acres, 10th-grader at Dunbar High School

SRO Cpl. Garfield Young wrote, “Tanahaja found a cellular telephone in the restroom at school and immediately turned it in to me. Good job Tanajaha you epitomize honesty and integrity, and the qualities of the Do The Right Thing Program.”

– Terrance Presby, of Lehigh Acres, 10th-grader at Lehigh Senior High School

– Mark Henry, of Lehigh Acres, 11th-grader at Lehigh Senior High School

SRO Deputy Yadi Perez-Luna wrote, “Terrance and his friend Mark found an I-Phone cellular telephone, valued at an estimated price of $500. They immediately turned it in to Student Services at school. They wanted it to be reunited with its rightful owner. I commend these two young men for their honesty and doing the right thing when others are not looking.”
