Caloosahatchee Regional Park announces upcoming programs
Caloosahatchee Regional Park, at 18500 N. River Road, Alva, presents the following:
– Camouflage Critters Preschool Program (ages 3-6)
10-11:30 a.m. Dec. 3
Animals play hide and seek too. Preschoolers will learn why animals are all different colors. We will read a book about camouflage, go on a hike and play games to learn about camouflage. Meet at the campground entrance at 19130 N. River Road. These preschool programs generally include a story, fun lesson, hike, game and craft. The cost is $5 per preschooler. A parking fee is required. Registration is required.
– Oxbow Kayak Clinic
9-11 a.m. Dec. 4
This class will introduce you to the basic techniques of paddling and then you will have the opportunity to use your new skills for a guided trip. We will paddle the beautiful oxbow islands of the Caloosahatchee River for a two-hour guided and informational tour. Be prepared to experience nature at its best. The tour is perfect for all ages and abilities. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All kayaking equipment is provided. Bring your own water, sunscreen, binoculars, clothing and shoes that can get wet. Meet at the campground entrance at 19130 N. River Road. Cost is $25 per person. Registration is required.
– Guided Nature Walk
9-11 a.m. Dec. 6
9-11 a.m. Dec. 16
Join park staff on a stroll through natural plant communities. See firsthand the plants and animals that make Southwest Florida so unique. Participants should be able to walk approximately one and a half miles. Dress appropriately and bring a water bottle. Meet at the main entrance of the park at 18500 N. River Road. Children must be accompanied by an adult. This program is free with paid parking. Groups of five or more, call ahead.
– Cypress Creek Kayak Tour
9-11 a.m. Dec. 11
This slow-paced paddle is great for all experience levels. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All kayaking equipment is provided. Bring your own water, sunscreen, binoculars, clothing and shoes that can get wet. Meet at the campground entrance at 19130 N. River Road. Cost is $25 per person. Registration is required.
– Wood Burning Home School Programs (ages 12-18)
2-4 p.m. Dec. 18
Homeschoolers will have the opportunity to practice the art of pyrography by burning designs onto tree cookies or wood plaques. Instruction and all materials are provided. Cost is $5 per student. Meet at the campground entrance at 19130 N. River Road. A parking fee is required. Price varies from $5 to $10 for each home school program. Registration is required.
