Traffic campaign planned
Lee County has again ranked in the top 10 counties for a high rate of bicycle and pedestrian crashes.
As a result, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office has received a federal grant for high visibility enforcement.
The LCSO will conduct 14 small-scale and seven large-scale operations. The locations will be picked from data collected from crash reports completed from all agencies in the county.
For the first wave, the LCSO will focus on education, awareness and safety. After, it will move into enforcement for bicyclists, pedestrians and motorists.
The campaign is to raise awareness for all who share the road on a daily basis.
The grant period runs through May 20.
