Home invasion robber turns self in, authorities report

By Staff | Dec 17, 2014

Johnny Wade

Last week, Johnny Wade turned himself in at the Lee County Jail.

He is charged with residential home invasion robbery with a firearm and is currently being held without bond.

Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers appreciates the media and the public’s assistance in bringing this violent crime to a conclusion, coordinator Trish Routte said.

Wade, 25, was one of the suspects in the Nov. 25 home invasion robbery in Lehigh Acres.

After following up on an anonymous tip, detectives located the vehicle sought in connection with the crime and identified Wade. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

Detectives believe Wade was the suspect who pointed a gun at the victim and threatened to kill her. He is believed to be armed with at least two firearms, including a revolver and a semi-automatic.

Wade has a criminal history, which extends back to his teenage years. His first felony arrest was for burglary and grand theft auto at age 15. Two weeks after that arrest, he was jailed again for yet another grand theft auto.

He continued his life of crime at age 16, when he was incarcerated for burglary and larceny theft. Wade’s most recent arrest was last week for failing to show up in court on a misdemeanor charge.

Shortly after 2 p.m. Nov. 25, an unknown black man approached a residence on Southwest 12th Street, inquiring about the whereabouts of an individual.

Upon learning that he was not there, the male left but returned several minutes later with a second black man, who proceeded to kick through the front door.

Both men forced their way into the home and ordered the victim at gunpoint to face the wall, while they ransacked the house.

One suspect was armed with two black handguns, one of which had an extended magazine. The men demanded cash and got away with two cell phones and the keys to the victim’s car.

Anyone with information on the crime, or the identity of the second suspect, can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 780-TIPS (8477).

All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
