LSHS welcomes new head football coach
Lehigh Senior High School has selected a familiar face from the Lee County community to serve as its next head football coach.
James Chaney, a North Fort Myers High School graduate, will take over the reins of the program, ushering in a new era.
Chaney attended Florida State University, where he earned his degree in criminology and played on the defensive line for the FSU Seminoles.
He has been very involved in local youth and high school sports for the past nine years.
JROTC teams take top honors
North Fort Myers High School’s mixed Raider team and Mariner High School’s male Raider team are state champions.
The Florida State Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Program Raider Challenge Championships were held on Dec. 13 in Lake Wales.
All Lee County Raider Challenge teams placed in the top five statewide. With two teams earning the top spots, 55 teams from around the state competed, including six teams from Lee.
Each 12-member team completed five physically and mentally demanding tasks.
North Fort Myers High School won four out of the five categories in their run to the state title.
The female Raider team from Mariner High School placed second overall in the state, while the Lehigh Senior High School female team placed third.
The male Raider team from Island Coast High School and the mixed team from Ida S. Baker High School placed fifth overall.
