AOI member named artist of the month
Josh Martinez Jr., a member of Arts of the Inland, is the featured artist for the month of December at Lehigh Regional Medical Center, at 1500 Lee Blvd.
A Clewiston resident, Josh was diagnosed with autism and epilepsy at the age of 2. He began creating abstract art his freshman year of high school.
Josh’s parents helped him open an art store, Art By Josh and More, where he can display his work and offer brochures and books on autism and other disabilities.
Proceeds from the store go to The Art By Josh Scholarship fund, with a scholarship awarded to a graduating senior interested in a career in special education or art.
Now until Jan. 3, see Josh’s artwork on display in the cafeteria at Lehigh Regional Medical Center from Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Art By Josh and More is at 509 E. Sugarland Highway in Clewiston. It is open Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Lee County Community Band will perform an annual holiday concert on Jan. 11.
Other concerts this season are set for the following dates:
– Feb. 8
– March 8
– April 12
All of the concerts will be held at 3 p.m. in the auditorium at Cape Coral High School, at 2300 Santa Barbara Blvd.
The programs are free of charge, but donations are accepted.
The 50-member band welcomes new members.

Artists, photographers, quilters, sculptors, artisans, craftsmen and writers are invited to participate and sell. Local students will be showcasing their creations.
Live music and entertainment will be performed in the gazebo throughout the day, and children will enjoy the wandering characters and special events.
Admission is free.
Food vendors will be on site.
Vendor set up will be held on Jan. 31 from 8 to 10 a.m. Tear down will be after 3 p.m.
A 10-by-10 space for Arts of the Inland members is $30; the non-member cost is $60.
The deadline to reserve a vendor space is Jan. 16.

Arts of the Inland is sponsoring a youth art contest with the theme “family fun” at the 4-H FunDay.
There are three categories: youth up to the age of 7, ages 8-12, and ages 13-18. Each age category will receive first, second and third place prize ribbons.
Entries will be accepted at the 4-H FunDay, which will be held on Jan. 24 at Veterans Park, at 55 S. Homestead Road.

A book launching and stage play based on the book, “Entitled Abused under His Charm,” will be held Jan. 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Lehigh Domino Club, at 350 Homestead Road.

Speakers will include child abuse survivor CJ Love, local law enforcement, Colleen Henderson from the Abuse Counseling and Treatment Center and more.
Written by Sherell Rosegreen, “Entitled Abused under His Charm” recounts the story of Martha, whose downward spiral at the hands of her initially charming abuser cost her career, her friends and her child, and almost her life.
An abuse survivor herself, Rosegreen founded the not-for-profit Inner-Scars Domestic Violence Organization in 2014 to help victims of domestic abuse.
