New Year’s Day robber sought
Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s help identifying a man who attempted to rob and carjack a woman at knifepoint on New Year’s Day in Lehigh Acres.
Detectives say the victim had just completed an ATM transaction at the BB&T Bank, at 1190 Homestead Road, at 8:24 a.m. when a man jumped into the passenger side of her car.
The man, who smelled of alcohol, pulled out a large butcher knife and ordered the victim to drive and hand over her cash.
The victim refused, and after several failed threats, the man fled on foot. The victim was unharmed.
The man is described as white, between 28 and 35 years of age, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing about 190 pounds.
Anyone with information on the identity of the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 780-TIPS (8477).
All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
