Chamber’s Awards Gala to honor several people

The Greater Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce will hold its 23rd Awards Gala banquet Jan. 31. Incoming President Steve Thomas, an Edward Jones financial advisor, is planning some surprises in his speech.
“I’ve got a five-point plan that I want to highlight at the banquet now that the economy has improved and the ability for business owners to grow is good,” he said.
Thomas and the new officers for 2016, along with a new board of directors, will be sworn in by State Rep. Matthew Caldwell or Lee County Commissioner Frank Mann.
But the highlight of the evening will be the annual presentation of an award given to someone who has greatly benefitted Lehigh Acres over the past year. The person getting the Heart of Lehigh Award is secret until it is announced at the banquet.
But, Thomas said, there will be several people recognized for their good works.

Each month the chamber recognizes someone who has done outstanding work in their profession at its meeting.
The gala is a black tie attire. In addition to the presentations, there will be a silent auction and music, and what promoters are calling “a fabulous dinner and drinks.”
Entertainment will be provided by RIG Entertainment, with DJ Jay Rigdon.
“We will be honoring outstanding teachers from each of the schools in Lehigh, with the selection of the Teacher of the Year, and we’ll also honor the Deputy of the Year from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office,”?Thomas said. “A chamber Member of the Year will be selected, along with an Employee of the Year award.”
A Firefighter of the Year will also be honored.
“These awards will be selected from those who have been recognized throughout the year,” he said.
The Awards Gala will be held in the clubhouse at Pelican Preserve, at 10571 Veneto Drive.
The reception will begin at 5:30 p.m., with a buffet-style dinner served at 6:30 p.m. The official program will start at 7:30 p.m.
The event is open to chamber members and the public. Tickets are $55; they are available at the chamber office at the Lehigh Town Center or at (239) 369-3322.
Inke Baker, the chamber’s CEO, will officiate at the gala.
More than 250 people are expected to attend, so Thomas advised that tickets should be bought as soon as possible.
The Awards Gala has been held at the Pelican Preserve for the past several years.
“It’s a fun event, and we invite all local business people to attend and also others who are interested in seeing all the honorees and who is to be named the Heart of Lehigh,” Baker said.
The event is called “The Night, where the Stars of our Community are shining the brightest!”
“That’s a sure thing,” Baker said.
The chamber meets for a monthly luncheon on the last Tuesday of each month at The Hut Restaurant, at 5150 Buckingham Road, Fort Myers.
