Local man accused in attempted New Year’s Day robbery

By Staff | Jan 21, 2015

Cody Levi Santin

As a result of numerous anonymous Crime Stoppers tips, detectives positively identified the suspect in a New Year’s Day attempted robbery as Cody Levi Santin, 24, of Lehigh Acres.

Detectives followed up on leads and were able to take Santin into custody on Monroe Avenue. He was booked at the Lee County Jail on charges of attempted robbery and attempted carjacking.

“The quick resolution of this case is a perfect example of how the public’s input can help detectives take a violent offender off the streets quickly,” Trish Routte, coordinator for Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers, said. “Within hours of the media sharing the surveillance photos, the public stepped up to the plate, did the right thing and provided Crime Stoppers with the information needed to track Santin down.”

At 8:24 a.m., the victim had just completed an ATM transaction at the BB&T Bank at 1190 Homestead Road, when an unknown man jumped into the passenger side of her car.

The man, who smelled of alcohol, pulled out a large butcher knife and ordered the victim to drive and hand over her cash.

The victim refused to do either, and after several failed threats, the suspect then fled the car on foot.

The victim was unharmed.
