4-H Fun Day coming
The Lee County 4-H Fun Day will be held on Jan. 24 from 10 a.m. 3 p.m. at Veterans Park, at 55 S. Homestead Road.
The event will feature 25-plus outdoor family activities, 20 gardening classes taught by the Lee County Master Gardeners, door prizes, vendors and more.
The classes are as follows:
– 10 to 10:45 a.m.: Organic Gardening, All About Citrus, The Challenges of Making Soil out of Sand and Garden Art
– 11 to 11:45 a.m.: Butterflies – New Stuff, The Mysterious Life of a Seed, Mistaken Identity and Native Journaling
– Noon to 12:45 p.m.: Growing Tomatoes in Florida, Insects?- Don’t Kill the Good Guys and Native Plants
– Noon to 12:30 p.m.: Garden Council
– 12:30 to 1 p.m.: Let’s Talk Compost
– 1 to 1:45 p.m.: Plant Parts You Never Knew They Had, Florida Yards and Neighbors, Invite Butterflies to Your Yard and Growing Herbs
– 2 to 2:45 p.m.: All About Bees, Why Water Really Matters in Southwest Florida and Gardening for Persons with Physical Disabilities
Admission is $5 per person.

Arts of the Inland is sponsoring a youth art contest at the 4-H FunDay on Jan. 24.
Three categories will be judged by the AOI members, with ribbons awarded as follows:
– Ages up to 7 can download and color the picture at: www.artsoftheinland.com
– Ages 8-12 and ages 13-18 can create a picture of “family fun” using color pencils and unlined 8-1/2-by-11 paper
All entries are to be brought to the AOI art contest booth between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

A book launching and stage play based on the book, “Entitled Abused under His Charm,” will be held Jan. 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Lehigh Domino Club, at 350 Homestead Road.
The event is open to the public.
Speakers will include child abuse survivor CJ Love, local law enforcement, Colleen Henderson from the Abuse Counseling and Treatment Center and more.
Written by Sherell Rosegreen, the book recounts the story of Martha, whose downward spiral at the hands of her initially charming abuser cost her her career, friends and child, and almost her life.

Live music and entertainment will be performed throughout the day, and children will enjoy the wandering characters and events.

The Gulf Coast Writers Association will host a workshop on Jan. 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Florida SouthWestern State College, at 8099 College Parkway, Fort Myers.
The program is “How to Build Your Word Press Author Website,” taught by author Joe Jacobson.
Attendees will complete a WordPress website. No technical skill is needed, though you should be able to do basic computer operations like copy and paste, access emails and type.
