County’s recycling numbers climb

Lee County residents recycled 1,500 tons more material in the last two months of 2014 than in the same period a year ago.

Recycling tonnage in December climbed to 7,942, up from 7,073 tons in 2013. All material received is sorted, baled and sent to secondary markets for reuse.

Aluminum and high-density polyethylene continue to be the most valuable commodities for resale. Revenue generated from selling the commodities goes back into the Solid Waste system to help keep collection rates stable.
