Lee County Democrats applaud recent State of the Union address
Members of the Democratic Party of Lee County gathered at their headquarters in Fort Myers to watch President Obama’s State of the Union address on Jan. 20.
The president spoke of the challenges he faced when he took office in 2008, but quickly highlighted the immense improvements to the country since the 2007 recession including the growth of the economy, college graduation rates, decrease in gas prices and unemployment rate, and millions of Americans having affordable health insurance.
Healthcare coverage is a personal issue for the Steven Blumrosen, president of the Democratic Club of Bonita Springs and South Lee County.
“Millions of people who now have insurance because of the Affordable Care Act, I am one of those people,”?he said. “Before the ACA, I had insurance that was good in only one state – not Florida. Now, I have insurance that is nationwide.”
Democratic leaders in Lee County also support the president’s proposal to Congress to provide two years of free community college to all young people who are will to work for it, reducing the burden of student loans on young families and helping to provide skilled workers for the 21st century.
