Helping hand: New adult family care home ready to welcome residents
Rob King
Rob King says he has provided a new adult family care home for disabled adults and for the elderly. The site of the facility, a family home with a pool, a family room with a large TV for movies and other entertainment, is at 711 Crestline Ave., not far from the Mirror Lakes neighborhood of Lehigh Acres. It’s off of Milwaukee Blvd.
“We are open and ready to go. Actually Jan. 17 was our official opening,” King said. His facility is permitted and he has met all the requirements in operating an adult family care home in Lehigh.
“We’re different than the larger ones like maybe Fountaincrest and others inasmuch as we are a large house with five bedrooms and the residents who live here will become family oriented,” he said.
“Some people like a smaller atmosphere with not as many people while others may prefer the larger facilities. But here at Harmony Homes, everyone will know each other and there will plenty of activities for our residents.”
Entering the new adult family care home is unlike entering most homes. You pass through a beautiful courtyard with a large swimming pool and a small guest house, which can be used sometimes by visitors from out of town who may be visiting a mother or father or other relative or friend.
In a pamphlet that King is distributing throughout the greater Lehigh area and Southwest Florida, the adult family care home is a residential dwelling designed to provide personal care services to individuals requiring assistance. And for information and/or to set up a tour as King suggests, call 239-980-2559.
King is offering what he calls a Sunset Open House and tour from 6 to 8 p.m. this month. Call 239-980-2559 for the exact dates. If there is no answer, leave a detailed message and King will get back to you.
“There are only a few such adult family care homes in Lehigh,” King said. “We are the latest and probably operate in the newest home.”
He is able to discuss private pay, private insurance, Medicare and Medicaid options.
The home is prepared for husband and wives who may choose to live there with a couple of the rooms with two beds, which can be pushed together if the couple desires.
Other rooms are for singles.
The bedrooms are comfortably designed and residents will be able to bring in a piece or two of their favorite furniture, if room permits, King said.
Antoinette Smith is the health care provider and she is there 24/7 and sleeps at the home where she can be on hand all the time for the needs of the residents.
There will be relief people who will also be on hand when necessary and when Smith is not at the house.
She will also make available rides for the residents to almost anywhere, places such as doctors’ offices, or a friend’s home for those who are mobile enough to ride.
“We have a lovely home here for the public. I think our residents will find this a happy place and everyone becomes family. Meals are cooked and any help needed will be provided.
“We will have water aerobics in the pool area on certain days and the residents may use the pool under supervision. A pool fence surrounds the area so nobody accidentally falls in, a safety precaution.
The house is large, some 2800 square feet.
King said that plans are underway for movies the residents may want to see on the giant flat screen TV mounted on the wall in the family room.
“We also plan to play top movie requests outside in the liana on weekends on large movie-like screens.
“Our residents will receive home cooked, nutritious meals and served at the dining room table in a family atmosphere.
Those who receive services from the Veterans Administration, home health care agencies, health care providers, the use of medical equipment and transportation will still be maintained.
“But the most important thing is that we are here to serve a family’s loved on, to ease the family’s mind and lighten their load.
“We applaud them for the excellent care they are giving their loved ones and we understand the tremendous task family members are performing; that is why we want you to know you don’t have to do it alone,” King said.
“All laundry services are provided along with toiletries and linens,” King said.
Every staff member of Harmony Homes has undergone a Level 2 background check and has been trained by our primary house provider, who has been certified by Independent Care of Florida Adult Family Care Home Training Center, King said.
“We are glad to give tours to interested families,” King said. “I think they will like the five large bedrooms with three and a half baths all surrounded by a beautiful converted lanai with a pristine well-kept pool. Rooms look out into the pool area.
“The family room is equipped with lush comfortable furnishings and each bedroom comes with custom designed fabric headboards and top of the line beds and beddings.
King urges those who may be interested to contact him as there is limited space available. Once a family has called, there is an assessment interview.

King says he sees a big need for Harmony Homes to expand with great looking homes and facilities in the future.
“That is something we are considering,” he said. “But for now we want to bring in new residents and get our home at 711 Crestline Ave. into operation.
“I am confident families of those who need this type of adult care will be happy with what we have to offer,” he said.
