Park announces events
Hickey’s Creek Mitigation Park, at 17980 Palm Beach Blvd., presents the following upcoming programs:
– Guided Walk: March 3 from 9-11 a.m.
Join park staff on a stroll through natural plant communities. Participants should be able to walk approximately one and a half miles; trail is only stroller and handicap accessible for a quarter of a mile. Dress appropriately and bring a water bottle. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Program is free with paid parking. Limit of 25 participants; groups of five or more please call ahead.
– Caloosahatchee to Hickey’s Creek Kayak Trip: March 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Kayak trip begins and ends at Caloosahatchee Regional Park campground. The guided tour travels along the Great Calusa Blueway. Paddle an hour and a half to Hickey’s Creek Mitigation Park, eat lunch and go on a hike before paddling back. Best for paddlers with some kayaking experience and/or in good physical condition for a five-mile roundtrip paddle. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All kayaking equipment is provided; bring your own water, lunch, sunscreen, binoculars, clothing and shoes that can get wet. Meet at the campground entrance at 19130 N. River Road.Cost is $40 per person. Registration is required.

Park amenities include parking, restrooms, a canoe/kayak landing, a fishing pier, picnic areas with picnic tables, bridges across Hickey’s Creek, trail shelters and hiking trails. There is a handicap accessible trail to Hickey’s Creek and to the amphitheater.
The park is open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
The parking is free for those with a valid Lee County parking pass. Those who do not have a pass are required to pay $1 per hour or $5 per day; please bring exact change.
