A new blood drawing site has opened up in Lehigh Acres, and appointments or walk-ins are welcome.

Atherotech Diagnostics is the second site in Lee County, with the first in Fort Myers.

It is located at 1150 Lee Blvd., Suite C., according to Keri Mangold, territory sales manager for Atherotech Diagnostic Labs.

“Those with scripts from their doctors should realize that we accept all blood work,” Mangold said.

The center is staffed with two phlebotomists, John Young and Milta Espinoza. As the business grows, more staffers will be employed to accommodate the clients.

The site specializes in the specialized VAP test which provides predictive factors for heart diseases and allows physicians to manage therapy options for their diabetic patients at risk of heart attack and stroke, according to Charles A. Reasner II, professor medicine in the Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.

Mangold noted that because of Atherotech Diagnostics, heir Lipid test (VAP) is the name of their lipid profile, and is non-fasting allowing patients to come anytime throughout the day without the worry or hassle of having fasted.

“The VAP is the most accurate non-fasting lipid test,” she said.

Because the lab has just opened last month, there are two phlebotomists and one of them is bilingual in Spanish, Mangold said.

She said the other location is off Daniels and Metro, close to Gulf Coast Hospital and both labs are open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

“And our phlebotomists are very experienced,” she said.

She was asked how can patients utilize their lab?

“Patients would go see their physician and when they get their lab script, they can easily bring it to our laboratory no matter what insurance they have to get their blood drawn.

“Whatever the doctor orders, Atherotech will take care of it. The VAP is mentioned because if patients are getting a regular basic lipid panel through other labs, they have to take time off work or out of their day to fast and when a doctor orders lipids and patients comes to Atherotech, they do not have to worry about fasting. So that saves time in the day for the patient,” Mangold said.

Atherotech Diagnostics Lab is known as a leading clinical reference laboratory specializing in cardio metabolic testing and disease management solutions.

According to information provided by Atherotech, through its proprietary technologies, it delivers comprehensive and cost-effective diagnostics and testing, friendly and dedicated service, and consulting and education to health care providers and patients.

Officials with Atherotech says this approach enables health care professionals to more accurately assess cardiovascular health and employ effective personalized treatment strategies to improve patient health outcomes.

The VAP Lipid Panel testing was developed by Dr. Jere Segrest of the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Atherosclerosis Research Unit and since 1999, Atherotech has provided the VAP Lipid Panel as the most effective technology for physicians across the U.S. to optimize cardiovascular treatment and management.

Officials say cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S. Every year approximately 785,000 Americans will have a first heart attack and 470,000 Americans who have already had a heart attack will have a second one. The “basic lipid panel” can miss 60 percent of those at risk; however, the VAP Lipid Panel identifies this hidden risk, saving millions of American lives from the burden of heart attack and/or stroke.

Atherotech provides a full complement of more than 60 blood tests to help clarify patient risk and drive an actionable, personalized approach to prevention, disease management, and health maintenance.

The Lehigh site opened on Jan. 5 and Mangold noted that the lab proves “a wealth of information in a single blood draw.”

Mangold noted that Atherotech accepts all insurances such as Medicare and Medicaid, and self-insured/ self-pay patients. When you go, take your insurance information with you or call them prior to the time you plan to go and they will help you with any insurance questions at (239) 674-7800.
