Democratic Club elects new officers

The Lehigh Acres Democratic Club announces the election of its new officers:

– Will Bronson, president

– Gabriel Sanchez, vice president

– Carol Cherigo, recording secretary

– Oliver Deweever, treasurer

Homeless Prevention Program available

The Lee County Department of Human Services has funding to assist low-income households with past-due rent, past-due mortgage and utility bills through the Homeless Prevention Program.

To qualify for assistance, residents must meet income guidelines and other requirements.

– Must be a Lee County resident for at least 12 weeks and have at least one minor child in the household.

– Total household gross income must be at, or below, 200 percent of the poverty level. For example, the maximum monthly income for household of two is $2,622; three is $3,298; and four is $3,975.

– Must have experienced an unforeseen or unexpected financial crisis through no fault of their own.

– Must demonstrate they can meet future expenses without assistance.

– Must agree to a self-sufficiency case plan and monthly contacts for 12 months.

The program does not assist with move-in costs or deposits.

For a phone screening to determine eligibility, call (239) 533-7996 and leave a message.

Staff will return phone calls within 24 hours.

Lee County Animal Services offer March Madness adoptions

Lee County Domestic Animal Services will hold its own version of basketball season’s March Madness. During the month, adopters will receive $20 off adoption fees if they can make a basket.

Hundreds of great pets are available for adoption. Visit the shelter at 5600 Banner Drive, Fort Myers, to make your pick. Volunteers are available to help narrow the choices and select the perfect family pet.

Adoption applications may be submitted at: www.leelostpets.com or at the shelter.

Pets available may be viewed online; the site updates hourly.

Adoption hours are Monday to Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The adoption fee for all pets includes: spay/neuter surgery; age-appropriate vaccinations; flea treatment; de-worming; heartworm test for dogs 6 months or older; feline aids and leukemia test for cats; a Lee County license for pets 3 months or older; Behavior Help Line; Microchip Pet ID; and a 10-day Health Guarantee.

The total adoption package is valued at more than $500.
