Kiwanis Club helps to sponsor Lehigh Little League

John Phillips, Lehigh Little League President, and Stevan Guevara Sr. vice president for Lehigh Acres Little League Baseball and Softball spoke to Kiwanis members during the Club breakfast meeting on February 25 at Hope Hospice in Lehigh Acres.

Lehigh Little League started its season February 21 with more than 560 participants in six divisions for baseball and three divisions in softball. Both Phillips and Guevara outlined the League’s activities and need for sponsors. The Lehigh Little League was originally established in 1968 with 47 youth participants.

The Kiwanis Club has a long history with Lehigh Little League, several club members; Jon Olliff, Rick Anglickis and Larry Hammond were involved with the League during those early years helping coach teams and officiate games. Jere Carrick, club president, presented a sponsorship check for $1,000 during the meeting.

Angela Melvin, executive director for Uncommon Friends Foundation, will be the guest speaker on March 11. The Kiwanis Club of Lehigh Acres meets every Wednesday morning in the community room at Hope Hospice located at 1201 Wings Way.
