Pedestrian killed in accident

A Lehigh Acres woman died as a result of an accident when she walked into the patch of a vehicle on Lee Blvd. on Feb. 23. Amilkar Mayea, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a car owned by Gladys Estevez, 51, of Fort Myers, was traveling west on Lee Blvd. In Lehigh, near the intersection of Joan Ave. North in the inside lane of travel.

Mayea, the pedestrian was beginning to cross Lee Blvd. at the intersection of Joan Ave. N. in a non-crosswalk intersection, according to the Highway Patrol.

Trooper Tyler McGowan said she walked into the patch of the vehicle in the inside, westbound lane. No charges were brought in the accident.
