Unique Easter egg hunt set April 4

By Staff | Mar 11, 2015

Easter egg hunters are invited to the Veterans Park Annual Colored Coconut Hunt in Lehigh Acres. It will begin with registration at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 4. Colored coconuts and candy filled eggs will be hidden in selected areas of the recreation center park grounds, officials there said.

Betsy Clayton, a spokesman for Lee County, said she advises that the children bring a basket and join the hunt. They can enjoy games, face painting and activities for all participants. The hunt will be broken in to four different age groups with colored coconuts and eggs in each patch.

Prizes will be given for special eggs and different colored coconuts. There will be a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny so be sure to bring a camera. Age groups are 2 and under, 3 to 5, 6 to 8 and 9 to 13. Cost $5 per child, Clayton said.

Pre-registration is required and the event is limited to 100 participants. Children and their families must arrive at 10 a.m. for sign-in and the hunt will start at 10:30 a.m.

Clayton noted that if your children want to participate, they can register at the Veterans Park Recreation Center by calling 239-369-1521 or go online at: leeparks.org under Veterans Park.

“But time is of the important thing, so don’t wait too long to register because after the 100 participates register, the hunt is closed,” Clayton said.

The address of Veterans Park is 55 Homestead Road S., Lehigh Acres.

She said there are other sites around the county and she said children are invited to put their egg-hunting skills to the test at several events in Lee County planned in advance of Easter. All information is available at www.leeparks.org.
