Middle school students accused of calling in bomb threat

Two Oak Hammock Middle School students, including one from Lehigh Acres, have been charging with calling in a bomb threat, a felony charge.
On March 10, shortly after 9 a.m., officials at Oak Hammock Middle School received a phone call from a male who stated “there is a bomb on school bus number 2848.”
Deputies along with school officials quickly located school bus 2848 on the school’s bus ramp with students on board. The bus was parked and isolated from the school building as students were quickly evacuated from the bus. Law enforcement officials cleared the bus and all items on the bus. No explosive devices were on board.
Due to the nature of the incident, the case was assigned to Lee County Sheriff’s Office Youth Services.
On March 12, student Alexander Sawyers approached the school’s resource deputy and reported the bomb threat called in was done from his cell phone and he and fellow student Dwayne Fuller had called in the threat, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators also said that Sawyers said the two gave bus number 2848 because they ride a different bus and figured it would throw law enforcement off their trail. He also said both students thought it would be funny to call in a bomb threat.
Subsequent investigation linked the student’s cell phone number to the call and showed both students were complicit in the crime.
Alexander Sawyers, 13, of 3203 53rd Street West, Lehigh Acres and Dwayne Fuller, 15, of 912 Jarmilla Lane, Fort Myers were both arrested and charged with false report about planting a bomb, explosive or weapon of mass destruction, a second degree felony.
