Lee County offering summer job openings
Lee County Parks & Recreation is hiring about 60 summer camp counselors and 20 lifeguards.
These temporary positions run from June 8 to Aug. 14 at various county pools and recreation centers.
They are entry-level positions that require experience working with children ages 6-15 for camp counselors and current certification for lifeguards with a starting pay of $9.25 per hour.
Counselors will assist with leading youth groups in various activities, entertainment and education programs. Lifeguards are responsible for patrolling the pool to protect swimmers and maintain order.
All positions will also perform other duties as assigned. Work could involve odd and irregular work schedules that include weekends and holidays.

LRMC?announces Employee of the Year
Camella Singh has been named 2014 Employee of the Year for Lehigh Regional Medical Center.
Employees are nominated by their colleagues based on their commitment to patient care, their professionalism and their contributions on the job.
She was chosen from among 360 employees.
Singh has worked at LRMC since 1987. As an RN, she cared for patients in the OB, pediatrics and ICU. Since the opening of the Joint Academy, Singh has been the orthopedic RN for the program.
Citizen of the Year for Lee County selected
The Lee County Board of County Commissioners selected Gregg Makepeace as the recipient of the Paulette Burton Citizen of the Year Award for 2014.
The award is granted to the citizen who has provided outstanding civic contributions to Lee County government.
Commissioners chose him from a field of seven people nominated by members of the community. The finalists included Janet Bunch and Ann Pierce Gardner.
Makepeace, 80, has been a civic leader and team builder in North Fort Myers and surrounding neighborhoods for more than a decade.
Airport reports February traffic
During February, 906,039 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport, an increase of 5 percent compared to February 2014. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 7.3 percent from the same period last year.
The traffic leader in February was Southwest 201,509 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Delta (192,055), JetBlue (98,096), US Airways (93,080) and Spirit (82,222).
Southwest Florida International Airport had 8,370 aircraft movements – takeoffs and landings – an increase of 3 percent compared to February 2014. Page Field saw 7,942 movements, a 4.9 percent decrease from February 2014.
In addition, nearly 2.6 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in February 2015, a decrease of 9.9 percent compared to February 2014.
March Madness adoptions offered
During March, adopters will receive $20 off fees if they can make a basket at Lee County Domestic Animal Services.
Visit the shelter at 5600 Banner Drive, Fort Myers, to select the perfect family pet. Adoption hours are Monday to Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Pets available may be viewed online; the site updates hourly.
Adoption applications may be submitted at: www.leelostpets.com or at the shelter.
The adoption fee includes: spay/neuter surgery; age-appropriate vaccinations; flea treatment; de-worming; heartworm test for dogs 6 months or older; feline aids and leukemia test for cats; a Lee County license for pets 3 months or older; Behavior Help Line; Microchip Pet ID; and a 10-day Health Guarantee.
Brookdale to host ribbon cutting
Brookdale Lehigh Acres will host an honorary ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 30 at noon at 1251 Business Way.
Local firefighters, churches and volunteers will be recognized.
