Builders Care, Center for Independent Living to provide more ramps
Lehigh Acres homeowners Kimberly and Mark Harp have suffered many unpleasant surprises over the past two years.
After stepping on a nail and suffering a subsequent infection, Mark Harp, 44, endured five surgeries and will soon lose part of his leg.
Harp is in constant pain, and his home was not equipped with a wheelchair ramp until Builders Care installed one recently.
Another Lee County resident, George Sandstedt, is a wheelchair user and lives with his brother.
Builders Care recently installed a ramp at his North Fort Myers home as well.
Requests like these come in almost every day at the Lee BIA Builders Care office and the offices of The Center for Independent Living Gulf Coast.
Each year, subcontractors and volunteers sponsored by Builders Care complete an estimated 12 ramps for homeowners in need.
The Center for Independent Living Gulf Coast is now partnering with Builders Care to provide funding for needed materials.
Brookdale to host ribbon cutting
Brookdale Lehigh Acres will host an honorary ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 30 at noon at 1251 Business Way.
Local firefighters, churches and volunteers will be recognized.
Lee County offers summer job openings
Lee County Parks & Recreation is hiring about 60 summer camp counselors and 20 lifeguards.
These temporary positions run from June 8 to Aug. 14 at various county pools and recreation centers.
They are entry-level positions that require experience working with children ages 6-15 for camp counselors and current certification for lifeguards with a starting pay of $9.25 per hour.
Counselors will assist with leading youth groups in various activities, entertainment and education programs. Lifeguards are responsible for patrolling the pool to protect swimmers and maintain order.
All positions will also perform other duties as assigned. Work could involve odd and irregular work schedules that include weekends and holidays.
