Registering for summer camp
Registration has started for the summer camp at Lee County Parks and Recreation.
The camps draw thousands of youth throughout the region to programs, outings and activities at the department’s traditional camps, teen camps and specialty camps.
Do not procrastinate – each year, the spots at Wa-Ke Hatchee, Lakes Regional Park and Estero Recreation Center fill up well before the end of school.
Summer camp runs nine weeks – from June 15 through Aug. 14.
“Historically, summer camp is the most sought-after program Lee County Parks and Recreation offers,” Deputy Director Dana Kasler said.
Here is a tip from the registration desk: If you plan to register for camp at Wa-Ke Hatchee, Estero, North Fort Myers or Veterans Park, you need to obtain a facility membership first.
People who register at least two weeks before the first day of the session for which they sign up will receive an early registration discount. For example, the price of traditional camp would be $70 instead of $75.
Outdoor specialty camps will cost $75, except for Boca Grande, which is $100.
Parents interested in swimming lessons can also register now. The lessons and other summer aquatics programs are available at the county’s four year-round community pools located in Lehigh Acres, North Fort Myers, Pine Island and San Carlos Park.
To register, visit your nearest pool or online at: www.LeeParks.org.
If you are looking for alternative transportation for your child this summer, Lee County government can help with that, too. LeeTran is offering a youth GO Pass.
Students can ride LeeTran to summer jobs or volunteer work, to summer school, sports practice, summer camp, community pools, the movies, shopping malls, the beach – the possibilities for summer fun are endless. Plus, parents save money on gas and have more time for their own summer activities.
It is available to full-time students 18 years or younger for $35.
The pass is good for unlimited travel on LeeTran buses and trolleys from June 1 through Aug. 31.
The pass can be purchased starting April 15, online at: www.rideleetran.com or in person at the Rosa Parks Transportation Center, at 2250 Widman Way, Fort Myers.
For summer camp and aquatic registration, call (239) 533-7275, or go online to: www.LeeParks.org.
