Ten seniors inducted into FGCU Hall of Fame

Ten graduating seniors were inducted into the Florida Gulf Coast University Hall of Fame during a banquet April 2.

The Hall of Fame, the highest recognition given to student leaders at FGCU, honors Eagles who have demonstrated superior leadership, integrity and achievement in scholarship, campus involvement and community service. A committee of faculty, students and alumni reviews nominations and selects up to 10 honorees each spring.

The 2015 Hall of Famers represent a diverse range of academic interests, but share a common commitment to being engaged citizens and high-achieving scholars:

– Lucy Leban: A political science and philosophy major from Lehigh Acres, she is active in Honors, served as president of FGCU’s Amnesty International chapter and participated in a study/serve abroad program in Costa Rica. Leban was also accepted in a summer-long National Science Foundation Research Experience at the University of North Texas, where she had a research paper published.

Elections Office Annual High School Challenge

The Lee County Supervisor of Elections Office has completed the annual High School Challenge, which is a competition among all of the public high schools in Lee County to see which school can pre-register or register the most students. The winning school receives a traveling trophy to display for the following school year by Supervisor of Elections, Sharon L. Harrington, at a Lee County School Board meeting. During the eight month run of the Challenge this year, we registered and pre-registered over 900 Lee County High School students!

This year is the first year we received 100% participation from all thirteen Lee County high schools! Schools that opened their doors and allowed us to reach the younger voting population are: Cape Coral High School, Cypress Lake High School, Dunbar High School, East Lee County High School, Estero High School, Fort Myers High School, Ida S. Baker High School, Island Coast High School, Lehigh Senior High School, Mariner High School, North Fort Myers High School, Riverdale High School and South Fort Myers High School.

The High School Challenge trophy award ceremony will be held on Tuesday April 28, 2015 at 6:00P.M. at the School District of Lee County Office.

Honorable Randy Brock, former Vermont state senator, selected as FSW commencement speaker

Before Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW) students cross the stage to become graduates, they will hear the words of wisdom from the Honorable Randy Brock, former Vermont State Senator. The graduation ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 8 at Germain Arena.

The two-time Senator and 2012 Republican nominee for Governor of the State of Vermont has also had a home in Naples for the past 18 years.

Florida SouthWestern State College is Southwest Florida’s largest and one of the most affordable institutions of higher education. Annually serving more than 22,000 students globally, FSW offers a variety of nationally-ranked, career-focused academic programs with two- and four-year degrees, and professional certifications.
