Seniors awarded scholarships
In partnership with The Salon Professional Academy, The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools awarded a $2,000 scholarship to four Lee County high school students.
All of the students expressed interest in the cosmetology program offered by TSPA.
The scholarship recipients are:
– Emily Foster, of Riverdale High
– Fernanda Geronimo, of Lehigh Senior High
– Jaclyn King, of Ida S. Baker High
– Samantha Rivero, of North Nicholas High
TSPA offers both a state-of-the-art school with the curriculum and training developed with REDKEN for individuals interested in becoming cosmetologists, as well as a salon area, offering services to the public including hair color, haircuts, manicures, pedicures, and skin care.
All services are performed by students under the direction of a licensed cosmetology educator, with full-time courses beginning every four weeks.
Class of 2015 earns scholarships
The Lee County School District graduating Class of 2015 earned millions of dollars in scholarships and will attend colleges, universities and technical centers across the United States.
Early data shows that the class earned over $65 million in scholarships.
Along with scholarship dollars earned, members of the class reported their post-high school plans. Of the students who provided information, they will:
– Attend a Florida public community or state college: 1384
– Attend a Florida private two-year college: 62
– Attend a Florida public four-year university: 1325
– Attend a Florida private four-year college or university: 220
– Attend an out-of-state college or university: 317
– Attend a Florida technical/trade/other: 340
– Attend an out-of-state technical/trade/other: 42
– Attend an out-of-state two-year college: 47
– Formal apprenticeship: 23
– Entering the workforce immediately: 222
– Enter the military: 283
– None of the above: 263
Summer hours for school district
Up through July 31, the schools and departments with the Lee County School District will operate from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
By closing on Fridays, the district anticipates saving $48,000 per week during the summer months.
