With LA-MSID, Lehigh does not need incorporation
To the editor:
The bill for the new Lehigh Acres Municipal Services Improvement District was unanimously approved by both houses of the Florida Legislature. It was signed into law on June 11, and it takes effect immediately.
All authority, obligations and duties assigned to the former East County Water Control District are translated over to the new district effective immediately.
Rep. Matt Caldwell informed the Board of Commissioners of East County Water Control District late last year that this bill would be introduced to recognize that the Lehigh Acres does not have the tax base for incorporation and that the public has consistently voted down incorporation by landslides.
The bill attempts to give a stable local district like East County more local powers should the voters decide.
