On June 24, the Fort Myers Police Department arrested and charged Bernardo Lazarin, 23, of Lehigh Acres, for the deadly crash that left his passenger pinned underneath the red Dodge truck.

Juan Avila, 34, of Fort Myers, died on scene.

Lazarin, who was found to be intoxicated at the time of the crash, was charged with driving under the influence causing death and driving under the influence causing a crash with property damage.

Lazarin provided a confession.

On June 20, police responded to a single-vehicle rollover traffic crash on Ballard Road just west of Kingsman Circle.
