To the editor:

I am writing to appeal the new fire assessments for Lehigh Acres. I am not opposed to an assessment, for I know that we fully depend on our fire and rescue teams.

I greatly appreciate their dedication to our homes and property.

What I do not understand is how, the powers that be, came up with the decision to tax every family dwelling at the same flat tax assessment. How can that be equal and fair to all property owners?

Please reconsider your decision to use the flat tax assessment and consider a sliding scale based on the cost and living space of the homes.
