Chamber looking for Celebrity Waiter Dinner sponsors

By Staff | Jul 15, 2015

There’s still time to become a table or event sponsor for the Aug. 1 Experience the Island Life event at this year’s Celebrity Challenge Dinner to be held by the Greater Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce at the Hut Restaurant, at 5150 Buckingham Road, Buckingham. It starts at 6 p.m. with dinner, challenges, music and dancing.

Inke Baker, chamber executive director and CEO, said the Celebrity Challenge Dinner is one of the organization’s major fundraiser events and one of the most fun.

Well-known and interesting personalities in the area participate at the dinner as waiters and waitresses and will do almost anything for extra and hopefully large tips, all going to the chamber.

Tickets to attend the dinner are $55 per person and there is limited seating. Included is a free round of golf at Mirror Lake Golf Club and a free dessert from the Hut.

The menu this year is a choice between prime rib, chicken or Mahi Mahi dinner. Both of the latter are also available in the spicy “Caribbean Island” version.

Entertainment will be provided by DJ Judy, Baker said.

Some celebrities already signed up include Diane Zigrossi, candidate for county commissioners, District 5; Rep. Matt Caldwell, state representative, District 79; Kathleen Passidomo, state representative, District 106; Lt. Jeff Brown, Lee County Sheriff’s Office; John Patrick from ABC 7; Peter Bush, from NBC 2; and Amanda Hall from WINK.

Baker might also become one of the celebrity waitresses.

This year is a first for the naming of the honorary mayor of Lehigh. Baker said the two running are Joan Cunningham and Joe Pearson. Part of the proceeds they raise will go to the chamber while other amounts will go to a favorite charity. The honorary mayor of Lehigh will serve for a year.

In the past the honorary mayor was chosen at the Lehigh Spring Festival in March, but this year, the contest was delayed and it was decided to give the sash to the new honorary mayor at the dinner.

With the event only two weeks away, Baker suggests getting tickets now so they can make plans for the placement of tables at the restaurant. Call the Lehigh chamber at 239-369-3322 to purchase tickets or to become a table sponsor.
