‘JA in a Day’ held at LAMS

Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida teamed up with volunteers from Iberia Bank on May 20 to bring the “JA in a Day” program to the seventh-grade students at Lehigh Acres Middle School.

The workplace readiness program focused on positive personal branding, career mapping, job searches and skills the students will need to keep their future jobs.

Volunteers from Iberia spoke about the impact that personal behavior has on potential careers and how creating a positive personal brand and learning how to research careers will help them prepare.

They also provided stories of their personal experience in the workforce to help solidify the concepts that were shared.

The program concluded with a certificate presentation for the students.

Early Learning Coalition steamlines services

With the 2015-16 school year approaching, the Early Learning Coalition of Southwest Florida recently announced the launch of a new online tool for parents.

Those needing to enroll their 4-year-old children in voluntary prekindergarten, register for Florida’s School Readiness program or access other ELC resources, this is their one-stop entry point.

The new “Family Portal,” developed by the Florida Office of Early Learning, can be found at: ELCofSWFL.org. Parents can look for the “For Families” button.

Parents are now able to scan and upload their child’s required documents. The portal speeds up the application process, allowing parents to check on the status of their application as well as print necessary paperwork.

Serving as a local resource for families, parents may still visit the Early Learning Coalition at its offices in Lee, Collier, Hendry or Glades counties to apply for VPK and School Readiness programs.

For information or for assistance using the portal, call the Early Learning Coalition of Southwest Florida at (239) 935-6100.
