‘Footloose’ explodes onto Broadway Palm
Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre is cutting loose with the high-energy musical “Footloose,” playing now through Aug. 15.
It tells the story of the lively city boy, Ren, who moves from Chicago to a small farming town where rock ‘n’ roll and dancing have been banned. After the culture shock sets in, Ren tries to shake things up by gaining support from his friends to overturn the ban. Doing so, he catches the attention of the preacher’s daughter.
Performances are Wednesday through Sunday evenings with selected matinees.
Tickets range from $37 to $60, with group discounts available for parties of 20 or more; there is a summer special on tickets for children – ages 18 and under are just $18 for dinner and the show.

The Edible Gardening Exchange will meet on July 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the North Fort Myers Community Center, at 2000 N. Recreation Park Way, North Fort Myers. An informal chat on edibles will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Timothy Kenaga and Astrid Hartleb, founders of GreenView Aquaponics Family Farm & Apiary, will present the UF hydroponics model – raft system – along with some alternatives in materials and nutrients.
Additionally, they will be bringing a small nutrient film technique system and a small hybrid aquaponics system, including a media bed, fish tank and raft.
The systems will be assembled in class with an explanation of how to make them.
The membership fee for the meetings is $10. In addition, a $10 Lee Parks and Recreation lifetime membership of is required.

A scavenger hunt will be held on July 25 starting at 10 a.m. at Healthy Harvest Farms, at 605 Mirror Lakes Drive.
Each destination point will consist of a challenge to accept or wait 15 minutes to get a clue to the next destination and challenge.
The top three finishers will be treated to prizes; a celebration will be held at the end for participants.
The entry fee for a team of two is $25 or $30 for three people.

Parking fees will be waived on July 25-26 at Lee County-managed boat ramps and regional parks, and admission will be waived at the county’s swimming pools in recognition of National Park and Recreation Month.
There will be 24 sites at which no fees will be applied, including:
– Regional parks: Lakes Park, Manatee Park, Hickey’s Creek Mitigation Park, Caloosahatchee Regional Park, Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve and Caloosahatchee Creeks Preserve
– Beach sites: Bonita Beach Accesses No. 1 and No. 10, Bonita Beach Park, Bowditch Point and Lynn Hall Memorial Park, Bunche Beach, Bowman’s Beach and Turner Beach (north side only of Blind Pass)
– Boat ramps: Punta Rassa, Matlacha, Alva, Davis, Pine Island Commercial Marina and Imperial River
– Pools: Lehigh Community Pool, North Fort Myers Community Pool, Pine Island Community Pool and San Carlos Community Pool

Lehigh Democratic Club seeking new members
The Lehigh Democratic Club will meet on July 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Veterans Park Recreation Center, at 55 S. Homestead Road.
The guest speakers will include Yosef Tedros, chairperson of the Democratic Party of Lee County, and Daniel Morisma, immigration specialist of The New Dimensions Network and AVIVA Radio.
Morisma will discuss immigration and citizenship in Lehigh.

Healthy Harvest to host scavenger hunt
A scavenger hunt will be held on July 25 starting at 10 a.m. at Healthy Harvest Farms, at 605 Mirror Lakes Drive.
Each destination point will consist of a challenge to accept or wait 15 minutes to get a clue to the next destination and challenge.
The top three finishers will be treated to prizes; a celebration will be held at the end for participants.
The entry fee for a team of two is $25 or $30 for three people.

Free parking last weekend in July
Parking fees will be waived on July 25-26 at Lee County-managed boat ramps and regional parks, and admission will be waived at the county’s swimming pools in recognition of National Park and Recreation Month.
There will be 24 sites at which no fees will be applied, including:
– Regional parks: Lakes Park, Manatee Park, Hickey’s Creek Mitigation Park, Caloosahatchee Regional Park, Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve and Caloosahatchee Creeks Preserve
– Beach sites: Bonita Beach Accesses No. 1 and No. 10, Bonita Beach Park, Bowditch Point and Lynn Hall Memorial Park, Bunche Beach, Bowman’s Beach and Turner Beach (north side only of Blind Pass)
– Boat ramps: Punta Rassa, Matlacha, Alva, Davis, Pine Island Commercial Marina and Imperial River
– Pools: Lehigh Community Pool, North Fort Myers Community Pool, Pine Island Community Pool and San Carlos Community Pool
The city of Cape Coral is also participating by waiving fees at its five boat ramps, including the Yacht Club Boat Ramp, Horton Park, Rosen Park, Burnt Store Marina and BMX Boat Ramp.
Lee County Summer Camps are also participating. Each camp site will provide an activity or project to showcase within its park setting.

Boot camps focus on fitness, nutrition
Healthy Harvest Community Farms, at 607 Mirror Lakes Drive, hosts the following boot camps:
– Mondays and Fridays from 6 to 7 p.m. at Williams Park
– Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at Veterans Park
– Wednesdays from 6 to 7 p.m and Saturdays from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at Healthy Harvest Community Farms
The classes are free; donations are welcome. At least 10 people must be signed up for a class.

Pool hosting classes
The Lehigh Acres Community Pool, at 1400 W. Fifth St., is heated and open year-round.
A wide range of swim lesson skill levels are offered, including adult beginners; all taught by American Red Cross Certified instructors. Eight classes for $50.
Commit to get fit with aqua aerobics. Choose from a fast-paced workout at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday or the ultra-low impact class at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday and Friday. Classes are 45 minutes long in chest deep water.
There are lifeguards-on-duty. Lap swimmers welcome.
