Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s help identifying a woman who used a credit card stolen from a senior citizen to rack up nearly $1,000 in purchases at a local 7-Eleven.
The 70-year-old victim had been at the store on Sunshine Boulevard early in the day on June 23. At some point after that, the man’s wallet, containing several credit cards, had gone missing or was stolen.
Later that day, a black woman made two purchases, one for $500 and one for $400, at that same store using the man’s stolen credit cards. The victim was unaware that he had been victimized until his bank contacted him regarding the unusual charges.
Surveillance cameras captured an image of the woman who fraudulently made the purchases with the stolen card. She is described as being 6 fee tall with a large build.
“Whenever large purchases are being made, we strongly encourage businesses to either ask for identification or at least check the signature on the back of the card,” Trish Routte, Crime Stoppers coordinator, said. “Had the credit card in this case been looked at, it would have been clear that the woman making the purchases was not the man whose name was on the card.”
Anyone with information on the identity of this suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 780-TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
