Examine & Report: Famed Lehigh artist to be featured in film

One of Lehigh Acres’ favorite sons, who has reached world-wide acclaim for his distinctive and unique art work, will be featured in an upcoming contemporary art documentary.
Marcus Jansen, 47, who is originally from the Bronx in New York, has painted literally hundreds, if not thousands, of his works at his home, but now paints in his Fort Myers studio when he’s not traveling abroad with his exhibits.
The film, which you can get a preview online, will highlight his rise to international fame with comments from such as Lawrence Voytek, the director of art production for Robert Rauschenberg, who has advised some of the top institutions in the world such as the Guggenheim Museum, PACE and Gagosian Gallery in New York.
Others include Steve Lazarides from Lazarides Rathbone, better known as street artist “Banksy’s” first agent.
The film will feature a first ever glimpse of Jansen actually working and it will take an intimate look and interview with him.

The film is titled “Marcus Jansen Examine & Report,” a documentary by John Scoular.
Featured in the film will be interviews with dealers, critics and collectors as they discuss Jansen’s work and motivation for painting , while examining the direction of his unique socio-political urban influenced paintings that have been gaining more and more critical attention and acclaim over recent years, according to a statement put out by his local promoters.
Scoular’s last feature film “Lunatics, Lovers & Poets” was released theatrically across the U.S.
The Jansen film is being shot in three different locations including New York, London and Fort Myers, where he works from his 14,000-square feet studio loft space at Unit A Contemporary Art Space at 1922 Evans Ave. in downtown Fort Myers.
Jansen spent his early childhood in the Bronx in New York City. His first painting depicted the life he saw from his perspective while he lived in the Bronx.
Later, he moved to Europe and received an education in Germany where he studied commercial painting and design.
A veteran of the Gulf War, he began selling his art from street corners on Broadway in Manhattan and now at international exhibitions and museum collections around the world following his discharge from the U.S. military, according to a press release from his promoters.
The Jansen film will open in Rome at Jansen’s first European museum solo exhibition followed by exhibitions in Beijing, New York and other sites yet to be announced.
Jansen is an internationally award winning painter and his works are collected in museums such as the New Britain Museum of American Art, The Moscow Museum of Modern Art, the Housatonic Museum of art, the Kemmper Museum of Art and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
