Suffolk completes school expansion
Suffolk Construction recently completed a $4.9 million project at Immokalee Middle School.
The completion of a building addition and renovation marks the seventh project Suffolk has completed with the School District of Collier County.
The eight-month project included the construction of a 24,033-square-foot academic building, with 16 classrooms. It also included site work and utility restorations, expansion and restoration of a parking lot, and a new chiller plant.
Rural King donates seeds to VegHeads
The VegHeads, a youth 4-H club, has been gifted tens of millions of seeds for its seed library by Rural King, at 26831 S. Tamiami Trail, Bonita Springs.
The seeds will be available in late August.
The club’s seed library is the first in Lee County and services Lee and Hendry counties. It started in October as a community service project has provided seeds to 150 gardeners in 10 months.
To order seeds, visit: vegheadseeds.blogspot.com for the form; it is also available at the Veterans Park Recreation Center.
The form changes throughout the year to reflect the plants that grow well during the season.
Orders are picked up at the Veterans Park Recreation Center, at 55 S. Homestead Road.

Airport reports traffic
During June, 481,512 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport, an increase of 0.6 percent compared to June 2014. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 4.4 percent from the same period last year.
The traffic leader in June was Delta with 118,259 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Southwest (111,362), JetBlue (55,793), US Airways (46,251) and American (35,990).
Southwest Florida International Airport had 4,749 aircraft movements, an increase of 1.7 percent compared to June 2014. Page Field saw 7,649 movements, an 11.7 percent increase from June 2014.
In addition, nearly 2.5 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in June 2015, an increase of 8.3 percent compared to June 2014.
Pet adoption specials available for July
Lee County Domestic Animal Services is offering a special to anyone adopting a feline.
Kittens may be adopted for $30 and cats 6 months and older for $15 during July. Active and former military will receive a free cat or dog adoption.
The adoption package includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, rabies vaccination and county license for pets over 3 months, 10-day pet health guarantee, microchip ID, feline leukemia and AIDS test for cats, heartworm test for dogs over 6 months, flea treatment and de-worming.

Adoption applications may be completed online; anyone interested in fostering pets may also obtain an application online.
Business Ethics Award deadline approaching
The deadline for applications for the 11th annual Business Ethics Award of the Uncommon Friends Foundation is Aug. 10.
In conjunction with the Florida Gulf Coast University, the award will be presented to a business that exemplifies the highest standards of ethical behavior in its dealings with both employees and its public.
The finalists will be honored at a special luncheon on Oct. 23; the winner will be revealed at the annual Uncommon Evening on Oct. 27 at the Burroughs Home & Gardens, at 2505 First St., Fort Myers.
Nominees from Southwest Florida’s five counties who consistently demonstrate a system-wide commitment to high business ethics are eligible. Anyone can nominate a company, including itself.
Applications and submission guidelines are available online at: www.uncommonfriends.org.
The foundation is seeking corporate sponsorships for the annual Uncommon Evening.
Individual tickets are also on sale at $125; seating is limited.

Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre is playing “Footloose” now through Aug. 15.
It is asking for the public’s help in nominating real-life heroes who have made a difference in the community for a summer campaign titled “Hero of the Week!”
Nominate a police officer, firefighter, EMT or someone serving in the military. It can even be a friend, family member or teacher who impacted someone’s life.
Nomination forms can be found online or at the box office.
One hero will be selected each week. Each hero will receive four tickets, including dinner, a shout out from the stage, a meet and greet with the cast and four souvenir glasses with a beverage of choice.
Performances are Wednesday through Sunday evenings, with selected matinees.

Broadway Palm Children’s Theatre is transporting audiences on a magical journey with Disney’s “Aladdin Jr.” playing July 30-31 and Aug. 1, 5, 7, 9, 11, 14.
All of your favorite characters from the hit Disney film come to life on stage. Join Aladdin, Princess Jasmine, the Genie and more for an adventure filled with magic, mayhem and flying carpet rides.
You will hear favorite songs from the movie, such as “Prince Ali,” “Never Had A Friend Like Me” and “A Whole New World.”
All performances begin with a buffet at noon and show time at 1 p.m. The chef’s special buffet includes favorites like chicken tenders, french fries, pasta and more.
Ticket prices for the buffet and the show are only $18 for all ages; group rates are available for parties of 20 or more.
