Lehigh Acres Fire and Rescue units reported to a fire on July 29 within the 1400 block of Lee Blvd. within the strip mall located there. According to Fire Marshal Kenneth Bennett, a fire was reported within the roof overhang over the front of the building between 1432 and 1430 Lee Blvd.
No fire damage to the interior of those units was reported, but Bennett said the ceilings were pulled to gain access the fire.
He said damages were estimated at between $6,000 and $20,000, depending upon interior smoke damage.
There were no injuries.
Bennett said businesses were required to shut down temporarily due to electrical problems. The cause of the fire was from an electric panel located several businesses down which had a faulty ground a piece of equipment that caused the steel roof bar-joists to become energized, Bennett said.
The stray electricity came down with these two units where the fire started, he said.
The fire marshal, who is also the chief of administration operations at the Lehigh Acres Fire Dept., said there was another fire at a home the same day.
He said a kitchen fire was reported in a duplex in the 200 block of Meadow Rd at around 2:30 p.m. No injuries were reported in that incident.
Bennett said occupants discovered the fire and called 911. They then told their neighbor who ran next door and threw cat litter on the fire which contained the blaze and had it mostly extinguished upon arrival of the fire department.
The family was temporarily displaced due to smoke and damage. Bennett said the Lee County Red Cross is assisting the family.
