Edible Gardening Exchange to meet

The Edible Gardening Exchange will meet on Aug. 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the North Fort Myers Community Center, at 2000 N. Recreation Park Way, North Fort Myers. An informal chat on edibles will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Debbie Hughes, senior horticulturist for the Edison Ford Winter Estates, will discuss herb gardening in Southwest Florida.

The membership fee for the meetings is $10. In addition, a $10 Lee Parks and Recreation lifetime membership of is required.

Consider bringing something to share with other gardeners.

Auxiliary needs donations for sale

The Lehigh Acres American Legion Auxiliary Unit 323 will host a garage sale on Aug. 22 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Post Home, at 1124 Ashlar Drive.

Any donations may be brought to the post from Aug. 16-21.

The proceeds will go toward a donation to the Fisher House.

The Greater Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a bowling tournament on Aug. 28 starting at 6 p.m. at Bowland, at 1244 Business Way.

Teams with up to five players and two games are planned. There will be raffles, prizes and more.

Cost is $15 per person and includes a ball and shoes; guests are $5 per person. To sign up, call (239) 369-3322.

Broadway Palm to host auditions

Broadway Palm is holding open auditions for its upcoming 23rd Season on Aug. 30 at 1380 Colonial Blvd. in Fort Myers.

Ages 7-17 will audition at 1 p.m., and ages 18 and up will audition at 3 p.m.

A sign-up sheet will be available at noon for ages 7-17, then at 2:30 p.m. for ages 18 and up.

Auditions are on a first-come, first-served basis; no appointments will be taken.

The musical productions on the main stage with roles available are “A Wonderful Life,” “Show Boat,” “Sister Act” and “Funny Girl.”

The Off Broadway Palm is casting for the musical “Plaid Tidings” and the comedies “Unnecessary Farce” and “Who’s Under Where?”

Anyone interested in auditioning should bring a current headshot/picture and resume.

Those auditioning for a musical need to be prepared to sing 16 bars that best shows off your range. Bring sheet music in the proper key; an accompanist will be provided (no recorded music accepted.)

Songs should be in the musical theatre genre.

After the vocal audition, you may be asked to attend a dance or reading audition.

Those auditioning for a comedy need to have a comic monologue prepared.

Allow yourself enough time to be seen and possibly be called back to read or dance.

Productions require a two-week process with daily rehearsals; you must be available for the rehearsal process and all performances.

Performances are Tuesday through Sunday evenings, with selected matinees on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday or Sunday.

We do our best to work around school hours for children; all children’s roles are double cast and will alternate performances.
