Members of the board of commissioners, the staff and management of Lehigh AcresMSID are inviting the community to a dedication ceremony at its headquarters at 601 East County Lane on Wednesday, Aug. 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The LA-MSID is the former East County Water Control District, but changed its name through state legislation, to handle more local community business in Lehigh in addition to the continued responsibilities it had as the East County Water Control District.

That action took place through the efforts of Rep. Matt Caldwell and area local legislators and the board of commissioners of the new Lehigh Acres-MSID.

And on July 20, the LA-MSID board of commissioners approved a new logo, mission and general vision for the newly created agency.

According to a spokesperson for the agency, LA-MSID is a multi-county Chapter 189 District created by the state to provide draining and flood control; conservation and mitigation; irrigation, navigation, and limited parks services to Lehigh Acres and western Hendry County.

It (ECWCD) took on new life on June 10 when Gov. Rick Scott signed HB1255, Chapter 2015-202 into law. With Scott’s signature, this action dissolved the 57-year-old ECWCD and transferred all of its acts, property, obligations and liabilities to the new created Lehigh Acres MSID.

Nathan Stout, chairman of the LA-MSID Board of Commissioners said “though the efforts of dedicated elected officials and employees, Lehigh, “Lehigh Acres MSID will continue to build upon ECWCD’s 57-year history and deliver the highest quality services, provide a fair and orderly system of governance, and protect the area’s environmental and community resources”

Now the latest news is that the organization has adopted a new logo. It adopts design aspects of the ECWCD’s old logo as a nod to the history of the group, while officials said it also introduces new elements to encompass the agency’s dedication to the community and the environment, Stout said.

The logo was created in-house by staff member Tom Rost.

And during the last several weeks, Lehigh Acres MSID, the staff has been diligently working to execute the official transition of the new agency, said Daivd E. Lindsay, LA-MSID district manager.

Lindsay reminds the community that the dedication ceremony on Aug. 26 starts at 11 a.m. and continues to 1 p.m. If you plan on attending, it’s not too late to RSVP, you should email: carlau@la-mside.com.

In addition, LA-MSID has earned a Public Relations Society of America award from the Sunshine District for outstanding accomplishments in a public service project.

It all come to be as a result of the joining together of the Lehigh Acres MSID, Waterman Broadcasting and WeatherBug by Earth Networks in the fall of 2014 when they implemented a public service project installing Lehigh Acres’ first weather station and camera. LA-MSID was also nominated for its health and wellness program.
