What a mess
To the editor:
Let me recap an article in one of our local newspapers concerning the Special Session.”
“The Florida House and Senate are on a collision course in the final week of the special legislative session on congressional redistricting.”
“The two chambers would be at odds with just two days left in the special session.”
“Secrecy in drawing the state’s current congressional districts.”
“Along with some partisan favoritism that violated the anti-gerrymandering provisions of the Florida Constitution – prompted the lawsuit that caused the Supreme Court to toss out the current political boundaries.”
“They could also extend the session, if necessary.”
“Quizzed about the base map and how it was produced, asking whether it included any intent to favor incumbents or one party over another.”
News flash, article in the same newspaper on Aug. 22 highlight quotes:
“Congressional redistricting blew up without agreement.”
“Courts make the state’s most political decisions.”
“Session fizzled to a futile finish.”
“Senators stalked out of a meeting.”
“The standoff marked at least the third session sinkhole between the House and Senate Republicans.”
Circuit Judge Terry Lewis had found that the Republican leadership violated.”
“The Senate refused to back off its changes, so nothing passed.”
“Washington has come to Tallahassee.”
Now I ask you, do these sound like comments you would like to see in the local newspaper about you favorite political party? Or something you should be proud of? To make matters worse for these right wing do nothings, they have control of the Senate, the House and the governorship. Even with all of this going for them, these mutts still can’t agree on anything. Can you believe it?
Between this redistricting issue and the famous budget fiasco just a month ago, it is no wonder that Florida is the laughing stock of the free world. This ongoing, complete inability to compromise on anything within the Republican party, has had, is having and will have a profound effect on all of us. Given the group of Republicans we now have in Tallahassee and Washington, can you imagine in your wildest dreams this group of incompetents coming together and actually running the government? Forget it.
Fear not pilgrims, the golden boy, Donald Trump has arrived, stage right. He keeps saying “Trust me, I’ll get it done, I’ll fix that.” Seen his immigration plan lately? What a joke. Let me remind you, just because “the Donald” says it, does not automatically means it is. At least we can be assured that he will show up in a clown limo telling us all that he’s going to make us all rich. We were stupid enough to hand over the reins of the Government to the Republicans last go around. Look at what that gave to us; why not try a real carpetbagger?
If this guy wins the White House in 2026. God help us.
