Arraignment set for man in triple murder

Brian Hyde

An arraignment is set for Sept. 15 for a Lehigh Acres man accused of killing three family members.

Brian Hyde, 19, a Belize citizen who entered the U.S. illegally, was in court on Aug. 28 where he filed a not guilty plea.

Hyde is being held in the Lee County Jail with no bond. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service released a statement following the arrest stating that the agency wants to be notified if Lee County intends to release Hyde from custody.

He is being held on three second-degree murder charges in connection with the deaths of his aunt, Doria Pitts, 37; his cousin, Starlette Pitts, 17; and her boyfriend, Michel Kelly, 19. All three were stabbed multiple times.

Investigators said that because Starlette Pitts was close to being six months pregnant with her and Kelly’s second child, Hyde also has been charged with homicide of an unborn child by injuring the mother.

Investigators reported that the bodies were found shortly before noon on Aug. 11 inside the 21st Street S.W. house the four shared. An 18-month-old girl, the daughter of Pitts and Kelly, was found unharmed.

The Sheriff’s Office reported that Hyde entered the U.S. illegally from Texas nearly seven months ago.

Lee County Judge Bruce Kyle will preside over the arraignment on Sept. 15.
