Celebrate Safe Communities during Crime Prevention Month

By Staff | Oct 7, 2015

How well do you know your neighbors? Would you like to be a part of a Crime Prevention initiative that brings concerned residents and law enforcement together to help keep your neighborhood safe from crime and prepared for any emergency?

If so, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office invites you to get involved and participate in “Celebrate Safe Communities 2015”, a month-long national recognition program in October, aimed at fostering the bond of trust and cooperation between citizens and the police.

“No matter what neighborhood you live in, preventing crime requires each individual citizen to do their part,” says Sheriff Mike Scott. “There is no time more important than the present to unite the members of our community in a spirit of cooperation to help spread the crime prevention message.”

Sheriff Scott encourages you to join the hundreds of celebrations that will be taking place around the country by organizing your own community event. Consider holding a safety fair, an anti-violence/drug march, neighborhood clean up, or a good old fashioned block party to let criminals know they aren’t welcome where you live!

Your involvement is the most important factor in crime prevention because you are the eyes and ears of Lee County. Join us at these Celebrate Safe Communities events, as together we build a stronger community in which crime cannot survive!

2015 CSC Scheduled Events

– October 3rd: 9:00a.m., Pine Manor Community Center, 5547 10th Avenue, Walk & Parade

– October 13th: 5:30p.m., Page Park, 507 Center Street, Parade and Cook Out

If you would like help starting a Neighborhood Watch Program, or have one of our Crime Prevention Specialists conduct a Residential Security survey for you for FREE, please contact our Community Relations Unit at 258-3280.
